I ended up with a half a pig, parts provided by a butcher in sections, including a pork belly. I decided to try to cure and smoke my own bacon. I have the smaller version of the Weber kettle bbq, and found this to fit it. I used a chimney to get a few charcoal briquets going and put them in this device to the side, then put wet hickory sawdust on them and put the bacon on the grill and placed a second layer above that. I had purchased a neat dual-thermometer for the internal temperature of the meat and the temperature in the grill, and I was able to watch it smoke for hours without having to open the hood. Turned out great. No need to buy a smoker or tons of other stuff for smoking.

You will not regret buying the Smokenator. Sure, it is fairly simple, and probably a lot of money for what it is, but I just made my first batch of hot smoked Salmon, and it was at least as good, maybe better than the salmon we smoke a while back using a friends full-size smoker, and already made the whole purchase worth-while. The booklet that comes with it is very helpful, although I would recommend getting a thermometer to monitor dome temperature, mine ran a bit hotter than expected, but still worked out great. Really smart design, a must-have for any Weber owner.

Absolutely love it! It turned my weber grill into a smoker that can run for 6 hours with little to no watching..my only problem is that I have the smaller weber grill.
